COVID-19 Reopening Procedures

Here’s how we will ensure your breakout is as safe as it is fun.

Social Distancing

  1. We will lengthen the amount of time in between appointments so that no more than two of our five rooms are in use at any one time. This will prevent separate groups from coming into contact with each other while in the lobby, and it will also reduce the number of staff in the building at any given time.

  2. All rooms will be by appointment only (no walk-ins) to eliminate in-person transactions and minimize contact between guests and staff.

  3. The Gambler will be closed until further notice due to its small size.

  4. We will not allow separate groups to join together, and we will encourage guests not to come in with people they are not already in regular contact with.

  5. We will reduce the maximum capacity of each room to six people, and we encourage everyone to maintain six feet of distance between themselves and other players when possible.

  6. We will provide our staff with masks and gloves. Our staff will also be instructed to maintain a six foot distance from each other and from guests at all times.

  7. Debriefings conducted after the experience will be done remotely over the intercom screen instead of in person inside the room.

  8. We will post the recommended social distancing sign provided by the city.

Disinfection/General

  1. The increased gaps between appointments will not only allow for less contact between the groups coming and going, but will also give the staff extra time to thoroughly clean and disinfect the rooms and lobby after each group.

    1. In addition to our standard cleaning routine, all hard surfaces in both the room and the lobby will be wiped down with disinfectant wipes.

    2. The front door handles will be disinfected with wipes between every group that enters and leaves.

    3. Hand sanitizer will be provided for all groups in the lobby and in the rooms.

  2. We will require guests to wash their hands upon arrival, offer gloves for all players and encourage guests to bring and wear masks while they are in the building.

  3. Staff will be instructed not to come into work if they have a fever or are experiencing any of the symptoms of COVID-19. Staff members who experience any symptoms of COVID-19 will be sent home immediately.

  4. Guests will be instructed (via our website) to reschedule their appointments if they are experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19.

Contact Tracing

  1. We will gather the names and contact information for all guests. If it’s believed that a guest or staff member may have been in the building while contagious with COVID-19, we can then inform anybody that had contact with that person of the potential risk.

  2. We will also be tracking which staff member ran each group, and we will limit guests’ contact to only one staff member.

  3. We will encourage guests to inform us if they experience symptoms of COVID-19 within two weeks of their visit to Breakout CoMo.

The Last of Us: Activity of the Week

The Last of Us is one of our favorite video games. Find out what makes it so popular.

Stuck at home? Stay entertained with unique games

Over the years, we’ve learned how to make being locked in a room as entertaining as possible. Although you can’t come over to Breakout CoMo at the moment, there are plenty of ways to have fun while you’re locked in your own room. In this series, we’ll share our favorite isolation-friendly games to keep you entertained while stuck at home.

The Last of Us is one of our all-time favorite video games. And we’re not the only ones who love it - The Last of Us has won more than 200 Game of the Year awards. If you experience its breathtaking graphics and immersive storyline, you’ll instantly understand why it’s such a highly regarded Playstation game.

The Last of Us is inspired by The Walking Dead, and it will fully transport you to a post-pandemic world where you’re forced to fight zombies for your life. It provides a level of drama and emotions that we’ve never experienced with other video games.

While this game does touch on themes that strike a chord with what we are going through now, it counteracts the confinement of our present situation with the breathtaking graphics of expansive outdoor settings and urban environments retaken by nature. The Last of Us is the right amount of challenging, even for those who have not played a lot of modern video games, and there is an intensity to it that would have you biting your nails if they weren't glued to the controller.

All about The Last of Us

  • Playstation game

  • Created by Sony

  • Action/adventure game

  • “Mature” rating

  • Graphics: 9/10. The rendering of both urban and rural settings is beautiful. The decay of society is depicted through nature taking over the abandoned and crumbling builds. The lighting is used to add to the horror sections of the game, and the designers even managed to add in moments of breathtaking beauty.

  • Difficulty: 7/10. The game offers several difficulty levels. “Easy” and “normal” are forgiving enough to provide a challenge, yet they still allow players to feel out the controls. On the other end, “grounded” mode completely changes the game: One false move will end an attempt, so players have to approach every encounter differently than they did in easier levels. Surviving sections becomes more like a puzzle than a shoot ‘em up approach, which gives game a whole new feel. All that said, the game never feels insurmountable or unfair.

  • Story: 10/10. The story is the strongest part of the game. The plot’s twists and turns were surprisingly creative and compelling. The shocking series of events that play out go hand in hand with the wonderfully rich characters and their compelling relationships with each other. Every character in the game has a past that shades their view of the world. There are many moments in the game that would be considered extremely gritty and dark, but that is true to the world they are trying to portray.

We can’t speak highly enough about The Last of Us. And be sure to follow us on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube for more recommendations. We consider ourselves experts in finding unique activities to do, especially in Columbia, but we are always eager to try new games and activities. So share your favorite games in the comments below!

Wingspan: Activity of the Week

Find out why Wingspan is one of our favorite board games.

Stuck at home? Stay entertained with unique games

Over the years, we’ve learned how to make being locked in a room as entertaining as possible. Although you can’t come over to Breakout CoMo at the moment, there are plenty of ways to have fun while you’re locked in your own room. Over the next few weeks, we’ll share our favorite isolation-friendly games to keep you entertained while stuck at home.

One of the best games to play at home is Wingspan. Wingspan, made by Stonemaier Games, has quickly become one of our favorite activities to play at home. It’s a great game for families, friend groups, and any couple who enjoys unique date nights.

Wingspan is a card-based board game with a bird-watching theme. It’s challenging and well-designed, and we’ve even played it on Zoom. And don’t be scared by the bird watching theme. We weren’t particularly interested in birds before, but that’s changed since we started playing!

All about Wingspan

  • 1-5 players

  • 40-70 minute playing time

  • Ages 10+

  • Engine building game

How to play on Zoom

  • Choose one player to act as “mission control”

    • This person will draw all the cards for each player.

    • They will roll and manage the dice.

  • Before the game, players who aren’t acting as mission control will need to sort their cards face up by color and point value. This will allow them to find the cards easily throughout the game.

    • This way, when “mission control” draws a card for a player, that player can easily find the card.

  • Each person will manage their own board.

    • Players only have to track their own birds, food, and eggs.

  • Each player will draw their own bonus cards, and what they draw will be a secret until the end of the game. Players can end the game with multiple bonus cards, and one of our favorite parts is reviewing what everyone’s bonus cards were.

Bonus tip

If you want to go above and beyond Wingspan’s normal capabilities, you can purchase a Wingspan box organizer from The Broken Token, or upgraded game pieces from Meeple Source. These wooden food pieces and bird pieces make the game even more fun to play.
